Novara
This is a city with a historic centre that deserves to be explored. It is brimming with elegant palaces ranging from the Renaissance to the nineteenth century, with small squares and cobbled streets dominated by the imposing Basilica of San Gaudenzio, the dome of which is the symbol of the city (and is also visible from one of our vineyards in Mezzomerico). Also worth a visit are the Cathedral, the Baptistery and the Broletto, which houses the Civic Museum.
The flat landscape south of Novara, known as the “Bassa” (Lowland), is particularly suitable for cycling routes between rice fields, canals and historic farmhouses. Even the hills that surround the historic villages can be visited by bike, by passing through woods and pleasant landscapes.
Lake Maggiore
The wonders of the lake include the picturesque town of Arona with its famous “San Carlone”, a huge statue dedicated to San Carlo Borromeo.
Lake Orta
The lake is home to the delightful village of Orta, the island of San Giulio and the Sacro Monte, a monumental complex of great religious and artistic importance, within a protected area recognised as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Ticino Valley Natural Park
It extends along the entire river valley, up to the outflow into Lake Maggiore. The river environment has beaches, oxbow lakes, canals and woods. In addition to trekking and biking trails, horse riding, there is also the possibility to explore the river by canoe, kayak or dinghy.
